Quesadilla Makers

In Spanish, quesadilla means "little cheesy thing".  In central Mexico a circle of uncooked corn masa is filled with cheese and folded, then cooked until the cheese melts.
In northeastern Mexico wheat tortillas are often used instead of corn and other items are added in addition to the cheese.   These delicious meals have become a staple of Mexico and a popular item in the United States.

To make a quesadilla, a hot pan is brushed with oil.  A flour torttila is placed on the pan, covered in cheese, and sandwiched with another tortilla.  After the bottom tortilla is browned the quesadilla is flipped and the other tortilla is cooked.  The quesadilla is then placed on a plate, cut into wedges, and served typically as an appetizer.

A quesadilla maker simplifies, speeds up and results in less mess. Most common the appliance is heated up, the cook places a flour tortilla on the bottom plate and quickly places cheese, chicken, salsa, onion or other ingredients on the tortilla, places a second tortilla on top, and closes the lid.  The timer is set and in just a few minutes she has a delicious crowd pleasing meal!
